End of RMC

I graduated back in May. I am final a civil engineer and a commissioned officer. It feels good. I didn't meet the French requirements of my time at RMC, so unfortunately I was not able to go on parade in the RMC scarlets. That's life I guess. The dinner and party afterward were both amazing (and long, all-nighter actually). I guess that about sums it up.

I am now living in NewBrunswick and completing the last part of my training. I will be done in April. After that I will head to some base across Canada (where, I do not know). Right now I am just living in my new home that I'm renting. With a new paycheck and new faces, life is always exciting.

We'll see how this goes.

Wisdom Teeth

I just had my wisdom teeth removed. Last year the dentist said that they may have grown in fine, but they haven't moved since then so they wanted to take them out before there were any complications.

The operation itself was fine. They poked me in two different places before they could get the IV in (apparently I have tough veins). I was half-awake during the whole thing. The dentists, doctors, nurses, and anesthesians were all really nice and seemed to know what they were doing. I get since this is RMC's "Dental Week", they've had a bit of practice after pulling out the teeth of over one hundred people. As a plus, they didn't have to break my teeth. Apparently my mouth is like a huge warehouse. I can open it really wide and there's a lot of space. They liked that, so I guess I do too.

Right now I'm awake in my room. My escort, Nick, put me to bed, got all my medication ready for my and left a bottle of "Ensure" (a liquid meal-replacement drink) on my desk since I haven't eaten in close to 12 hours (because of the operation requirements). Man, I hate not eating. I'm always hungry, and today was agony because of the lack of food. I shouldn't be complaining though. I am very fortunate to have regular meals everyday and I'm thankful for that. I'm also really thankful that I have a lot of friends who go out of their way to help me out. From car rides, errand runners, and guidance (when under medication) people have all bed very supportive. Even those back home and elsewhere. Assistance is just a text/email/hand-signal/post-it note away.

Well I'm going back to sleep now. The blood and saliva from my mouth has seemed to slow down a bit. Time for some more rest.

Week 2

This week wasn't that bad. Other then the daily chore of school and work, a few events happened that made life a little interesting.

On Tuesday there was a blackout on the east side of Kingston. It kind of happened in the middle of class at around 1500 (3 pm). You see the funny thing is that in the Sawyer Building at RMC none of the classrooms have windows (the hallways are all on the outside and the classrooms are in the centre, terrible waste of heat). So due to a lack of electricity, class was cancelled. Fun times. Back in the dorms I got my flashlight (one I always keep handy since the last time I experienced a blackout in first year) and proceeded to walk around. It's kind of neat. When you take away people's ability to use their computers or internet, everyone becomes more social and people congregate in large groups. 2 Squadron, led by my captain, decided to build a gigantic 15 ft snowman. It was a good way to waste time. Once completed, we all went over to the mess and had a "candlelight" dinner at around 1700 (5 pm). It's was actually kind of cool. The mess filled up since we all had nothing to really do. At 1930 (7:30 pm), my friends and I went down to the skating rink in city hall. Sure enough that side of the city still had power. It was fun though. I met up with my friends from Queens and we all had a blast. Ending the night with some hot chocolate at the nearby café we soon headed home. The power came on just after midnight.

The rest of the week went pretty well. Yesterday my friend invited me to go see a musical at the Grand Theater put on by QMT. "Jekyll and Hyde" was amazing. Seeing a play at that level of performance was outstanding. I'm glad I went.

As for school work, I'm finally making some headway into my design project. AutoCAD Civil 3D can be a little testy at times, but I'm making significant breakthroughs with my data. Now it's time to finish some work for my other six courses. Here goes another weekend…
